Focus on Protéus for Healthcare Industry
|
|
Since 1998, Protéus develops and delivers high-performance proteins and protein-based processes for industry, in particular for the healthcare, chemistry, bioenergy and environmental sectors.
Protéus newsletter today highlights our activity in the healthcare sector.
Proteus has created two dedicated specific structures to serve the needs of pharmaceutical and biotech industry:
- “Proteus Services for Industry” (PSI) provides a full range of protein-related services
- “PCAS Biosolution” manufactures and delivers intermediates and APIs

PSI : Delivering the proteins you need
|
|
“Our goal is to deliver improved time and cost performance” says Cécile Persillon, PhD, who leads the PSI scientific team at Protéus. This growing business of the company benefits from more than a decade of experience in protein engineering and expression. “We serve clients involved in R&D and process development in the pharma and biotech industry” she adds.
Typically, clients come to the company for the purpose of accelerating pharmaceutical R&D programs that involve e.g. investigations of protein biomarkers, high throughput screening programs based on protein binding assays, production of antigens or optimisation of antibody fragments. Actually, scientists in the pharma and biotech industry need proteins and protein-related information throughout their entire R&D process. “What we have created here is a platform that helps them to stay focused on their core business and save time and cash when it comes for instance about producing mg or grams of difficult-to-express proteins” Dr. Persillon emphasises.
Through the full spectrum of PSI services, Protéus provides effective solutions for protein production, optimisation and immunogenicity assessment:
Prod'line : The design of efficient expression systems and scaleable bioprocesses for producing the proteins needed throughout your R&D process.
Dream'line : Protein engineering based on the most efficient technologies to generate optimised lead proteins
Immuno'line : The preclinical immunogenicity evaluation and management risk immunogenicity associated to biological drugs (monoclonal antibodies, peptides, therapeutic proteins)

Creating value for API developers
|
|
To better serve its pharma and biotech clients, Protéus created a comprehensive industrial platform integrating advanced biocatalysis with up-to-date industrial chemical technologies and capabilities.
For that purpose, Proteus teamed up with European chemical group PCAS. A major player in the industry, PCAS operates four cGMP audited multiscale chemical plants and several ISO certified sites for cost-effective back-integration of non-regulated compounds. Both companies formed PCAS Biosolution as a joint-venture dedicated to the pharmaceutical market.
“We are committed to be the quality partner of the industry for the long term supply of intermediates and APIs using optimal chemo-biocatalytic routes that meet the most stringent specifications of quantity, time, quality and targeted price” said Jean-Marie Sonet, general manager at PCAS Biosolution.
Within less than two years, PCAS Biosolution developed three multi-step innovative processes to industrial pilot scale. Most recently, a range of enantiopure beta-chiral alcohols, aldehydes and other enantiopure derivatives was released.
